That old
saying, ‘Never judge a book by its cover’ became a reality with Mr. Derrick
Martin whose daughter, Julia Martin, was murdered in cold blood by her
ex-fiancé, Rodney Harvey, because she wanted to return the engagement ring she
received from him back to him.
Mr. Martin
speaking with reporters after he discovered that his hardworking daughter had
been killed by her ex said there was no indication that his daughter’s former
fiancé was dangerous. He said he never ‘would’ve thought that in a million
years.’
Julia Martin,
27, from Chicago had been dating Rodney Harvey for 3 years. The couple had
issues with their relationship which resulted in them breaking up about 6
months before Julia was murdered.
Julia
decided to return the engagement ring and call off the wedding but Harvey would
have none of it. So he came to Julia’s apartment and forcefully made his way
inside. Reportedly, it didn’t take long and he began to unleash terror on his
former fiancée.
Harvey was
said to have stabbed Julia multiple times and when he felt convinced she had
died, he decided to take his own life. He jumped to his death from the
apartment building where Julia lived.
However,
Julia did not die instantly. As she battled with her life following the
injuries she sustained, she was able to put a call across to the police and
also contacted her dad and narrated to him what happened and who her killer
was.
Although
Julia’s father, Mr. Martin, had prior knowledge of the couple’s breakup and
also that his daughter had intended to return her engagement ring to her ex, he
didn’t know the details about their affair, a report said.
According to
the father, he was only told by his daughter they had ended their relationship
and that she was planning to return the ring.
The
aggrieved father has described his daughter as ‘ambitious, adventurous and
career-focused’. It’s so unfortunate he had to lose such a pretty and
determined daughter in her prime.
