16-year-old
Ciara Witt had been close friends with Jack Gudge, 17, and had often referred
to Jack as her best friend.
It happened
that Ciara was around when Jack was involved in a fight with a group of men
outside a store that sells groceries in the United Kingdom.
17-year-old
Jack was hit in the head by the mob which caused him to fall to the ground and
ultimately suffer cardiac arrest. Ciara ran to where he fell and cradled him
outside the Tesco Express store.
Jack
eventually died in Ciara’s hands as she held him. Ciara would later say that
her best friend ‘died my arms’.
Ciara, who
already had a troubled life, later attended Jack’s funeral and reportedly spent
so much time by her friend’s graveside at the cemetery on November 3 2016.
She would
spend the following moments grieving the death of her friend and eventually
went missing the day after Jack’s burial which led to her family contacting
authorities.
Officers came
to their family home in Bournemouth, Dorset and went round everywhere in search
of the missing teenager but failed to check the most obvious place – the
garage. So she could not be found by investigators at the time of their visit.
15-year-old Dean
Diffey, a family friend, who had just visited was about leaving the house late
in the evening when he heard an alarm coming from the garage.
As Dean
responded to the alarm, behold there lay Ciara’s body on the floor. Her fall
had triggered the moped alarm and she was found dead right there on the floor.
An officer
who was part of the team that came for inspection in the family home has
recently apologized for the error of not looking in the garage when they were
there.
Coroner
recently heard from the deceased’s family that investigators also failed to
take away certain items which had to do with their daughter’s suicide and were
left to it by themselves.
Coroner further
heard that the deceased had a history of self-harm following mood issues and
had undergone a therapy in the past and that she recently talked about going to
join her best friend.
Family and
friends believe the tragic loss of her friend brought Ciara very low which
resulted in her taking her own life.
