Cheick Tiote
has become the latest former Premier League player to move to China after
signing for Chinese second tier side Beijing Enterprises Group FC.
The former
Newcastle midfielder follows the likes of Oscar, Ramires, John Obi Mikel, and
Carlos Tevez in choosing China.
The 30-year-old had been linked with a move to
Chinese Super League side Shandong Luneng where he would have linked up with
ex-Toon team-mate Papiss Cisse as well as former Southampton striker Graziano
Pelle.
But he
instead opted for Beijing and has signed a two-year deal in the Chinese
capital, his agent Emanuele Palladino told Sky Sports.
Tiote is
best remembered for lashing in a superb volley to complete an incredible
comeback for Newcastle from 4-0 down at home to Arsenal to grab a point in
2011.
And after
arriving from FC Twente a few months earlier the Ivorian hugely impressed, at
his peak alerting the likes of Arsenal.
But he
stayed at St James' Park and went on to make 150 appearances for the Toon Army,
yet only three since their relegation in May last year - with is last coming in
the FA Cup win over Birmingham last month.
