In a
closed-Door meeting with some PDP members, former president Goodluck
Jonathan has denied endorsing factional chairman of the Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP) Ali Modu Sheriff.
Leadership
reports that Jonathan made the denial on Tuesday, February 21 when he met with
members of the party’s ministers’ forum held at his Maitama residence in Abuja which was well attended.
He said: “We
are solving our problems. There are bound to be differences in politics. It is
the way we resolve these differences that makes us human beings and that is
what makes us leaders.
“We are not
factionalised. We are one. I have met with Sheriff. And I have met with others.
I will meet with others, so that we will be able to do what is expected of us
as a political party.”
A former
minister in the party confirmed that the meeting took place even as pictures of
the event have emerged.
He said. “We
just concluded. GEJ in his continuous discussion with PDP stakeholders for a
lasting resolution of PDP crisis, met with Sherrif yesterday and later with
Makarfi. Today with PDP ministers forum.”
Reports emerged on Monday, February 20 that Jonathan endorsed Sheriff who paid
him a visit at his Abuja residence the same day.
Hopefully this denial clears the air on his stand in the party's leadership controversy.
