A married
male model, Matt Peacock, has employed the services of private detectives to
track down men using his identity to trick women on dating sites.
A particular
man stole the identity of Peacock and used it to produce 40 fictitious profiles
on dating sites aiming to dupe gullible women into dates and casual
relationships. In order to convince his victims even more, the identity thief
used photos of the model’s relatives. By so doing, he got the ladies into sending
private photos and videos to him.
Peacock has
said that the activities of these invaders have had a devastating effect on his
wife and the women who have fallen victim to their scheme. Following the ugly development,
many of those female victims have been contacting Peacock.
The married
fashion model then used private detective to track down and confront one of those
erring men. When apprehended, the man
was apologetic and promised to stop, but just three weeks after, he continued
with his deceptive activities.
Peacock has
expressed disgust concerning the issue. He said, ‘I am a fashion model by trade
so there are a lot of pictures of me out there.’ He also said that he started
getting messages from girls he hadn’t met before saying they had been talking to
someone pretending to be him.
He further
explained, ‘There were 43 different profiles that used my picture, and it
wasn't just one person doing it. It affected me and my whole family.’ He also
added, ‘I am going to be a dad next year, and I don't want my children to come
into a world where this goes on.’
When the
expectant father contacted the police, he was told that there was nothing they
could do because the perpetrator wasn't breaking any laws.
He has since
launched a campaign to lobby for a change. He hopes that people who steal
others’ pictures and create fake social media platforms will be brought to
justice.
