A man from
Uganda, Ivan Ssemwanga, died on the 25th of May following a terrible heart
attack. The late Ssemwanga was a flamboyant billionaire businessman and was
well known the social circles. He was popular for throwing wads of cash at
revelers in parties he attended in his home country, Uganda, and South Africa
where he has business interests.
Ssemwanga
was buried on the 30th of May according to traditional rites. However, there
was a twist to the whole burial event as money, in different currencies, was
thrown into the grave by his rich gang crew, family, and friends. The
currencies involved are: South African Rands, Ugandan Shillings, and the United
States Dollars
Currently,
there is a problem for his family as a man identified as Magugu Abey, a Ugandan
citizen, is seeking court orders to exhume the body of the late businessman so
that he can retrieve the money his gang members buried alongside his body.
In the suit
papers filed with the country's High Court, Abey has named 'A Plus Funeral
Management' – the management company that handled the burial, and the 'Bank of
Uganda' as respondents. Abey has accused the bank of acting in negligence by
failing to ensure the respect of monetary currency of Uganda and other
countries.
According to
him, he is seeking that all the currencies put in the grave and buried along
with Ivan Ssemwanga’s body be removed by ordering the respondents to exhume the
corpse of late Ssemwanga for the purpose of respecting the Ugandan currency and
other currencies involved.
Abbey is
also seeking custody of the said wards of cash when they are retrieved. His
reason is that he wants the cash to be put back into circulation.
The late
Ivan Ssemwanga was married to Zari Hassan for 10 years and their union was
blessed with three sons before they divorced. Hassan is a Ugandan socialite and
had earlier rubbished reports making the rounds that her ex-husband, Ivan
Ssemwanga, died after eating a poisoned meal.
Soon after
his death was made public, Ugandan media had carried the news that Ivan
Ssemwanga was poisoned at an entertainment joint in the country’s capital,
Kampala about three weeks to his passing on at South Africa’s Steve Biko
Academic Hospital. The media reports attributed the claims to the businessman’s
close family members
Zari is now
married to a popular music act, Tanzanian Bongo singer, Diamond Platnumz.
