Manchester
United will be without five first-team players for Sunday's trip to Sunderland,
manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed.
Ashley Young
limped out of United's draw with Everton on Tuesday night and won't travel to
the Stadium of Light.
Wayne Rooney
came through last weekend's draw with West Brom unscathed but missed the game
against Everton three days later and Mourinho confirmed he won't be back to
face the Black Cats.
Juan Mata,
Phil Jones and Chris Smalling are also out.
Mourinho
said: “Rooney is not available. Young is injured and there is no more news,
because with Mata, Smalling and Jones you already know we are speaking about
old injuries.”
Mourinho
will pit his wits against former United manager David Moyes when United travel
to 20th-placed Sunderland.
The
Portuguese admitted he has sympathy with Moyes, who has endured a tough week on
a personal level.
Moyes is
facing FA action for threatening to slap a female journalist while his side
looked doomed to relegation after their 2-0 defeat by Leicester on Tuesday.
“I have
sympathy with every manager that is fighting hard to reach their objectives and
he’s in trouble to do it," Mourinho added.
