Wikileaks founder, Julian Assange, not eligible for general election

Julian Assange is not eligible to stand in the general election - and he could get in trouble if he tries.

The Wikileaks founder, who has been holed up in the Ecuadorian Embassy to avoid questioning over rape allegations for several years, has been cheekily tweeting about throwing his hat in the ring since Theresa May announced the election on Tuesday.

He posted a poll asking his followers: "Should I run in the UK general election?"

Some 71% of his followers thought he should - with around half saying he should do it because "That'd be fun".

The next day, he said: "I can run for Parliament in any constituency in the UK. Haha. So--which one?"

But it's not quite as simple as that.
