The Malabu
oil scandal has pitched the Insiders into two camps of those that are for
investigations and those that just see this as another media trial and
propaganda.
“The Malabu
oil issue is just one of the numerous items in the coolers of the current
government to agitate the public and distract Nigerians. When you see any issue
laced with propaganda and incomplete facts, it is meant to distract the public
from the inaction and failure of this government. Money is the easiest thing to
trace. Let them publish documents on how monies have been traced to the account
of the former President. Nigerians are sick and tired of baseless conjectures”
said an Insider with the PDP.
Another
Insider with the APC in his view said “Like every other corruption scandal
under investigation by the government of Muhammadu Buhari, it will be so
painful if this ends as just another media trial. Interestingly, the House of
Representatives is presently conducting an investigation into Malabu scandal.
It is my sincere wish that justice is done. If indeed ex-president Goodluck
Jonathan was a recipient of bribe in the deal, he should be made to face the
music and the funds recovered by all means. If not, let us just enjoy the media
circus while it last”.
But this
issue has gotten more media attention than for the EFCC not to make any headway
on it, and it is still generating lots of controversy.
Another
Insider with the PDP expressing cynism and doubt about the scandal said “It is
just a distraction. I don’t believe all these. The parties involved should be
invited to explain. Even Nigerian Government has not earned approximately $1
trillion from oil since 1980. Why will a single oil block generate $500bn?
People need to start reading. Malabu figures are lies to be taken by
illiterates. If GEJ is involved. They should invite him and stop the media
crucifixion.”
“Company
chiefs and their organizations have been prosecuted and sanctioned for shoddy
oil deals in the parent nations of some multinationals operating in our oil
sector without any alarm, so why is ours different? The government and its
anti-graft agency should do due diligence and prosecute discreetly without
agitating the public. The current EFCC under Ibrahim Magu is only interested in
sensationalizing the fight against economic crimes and not the substance. We
can’t get value in the fight against corruption with all this contrived
propaganda” said an Insider in the PDP
Another
Insider simply said “If there is prove of it, then he should be charged to
court”
“The
allegations raised in the BBC report should not be swept under the carpet.
GEI’S Involvement in that transaction must be thoroughly investigated” This is
also opined by one of our Insiders.
But until
the EFCC presents us with facts that we all cannot contend, the Malabu oil
scandal would keep being a scandal with its own sensationalism.
