The Ekiti
State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has described as ‘suicide
mission’, the alleged plan by the Minister of Solid Minerals and former
governor of the state, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, to oust Governor Ayodele Fayose from
office through alleged judicial conspiracy.
The party,
through its factional state Chairman, Gboyega Oguntuase, said Governor Fayose’s
election was ordained by God and validated by the people of Ekiti state, as
reflected in the overwhelming supports he received during the June 21, 2014
governorship poll.
Oguntuase
said no amount of surreptitious plan would thwart the will of the electorates,
who freely gave Fayose the victory in the election in all the 16 local
government areas, with Fayemi as an incumbent governor.
Fayose had,
on Monday, raised the alarm over alleged plan by Fayemi, in cahoots with two
newly appointed Supreme Court Justices to remove him from office through the
back door.
Fayose
alleged that Fayemi was seeking a review of the Supreme Court’s judgement,
which had earlier upheld his election as governor.
Responding
through his aide, Akin Oyebode, Fayemi had denied the allegation saying “such
allegation is no longer new to me”.
Giving the
party’s official position on the issue in Ado Ekiti, yesterday , Oguntuase said
the people of the State will resist every devilish attempt being allegedly
contrived by Fayemi to rule Ekiti through the backdoor.
“We are not
threatened by this move because we see it as an ungodly and suicide mission.
All Ekiti people are in support of Fayose and I believe very few people are
backing the former governor, who plunged Ekiti into huge indebtedness and
wrecked the economy before he left.
“We believe
reasonable number of our Supreme Court judges are men of integrity who will not
allow any politician to ruin their careers.
“We thought
it was a rumour when we heard that Fayemi promised to use every means to return
to power, but this latest move had confirmed this fear.
“We owe it a
duty to let the public know about this evil intention of the APC. They bragged
like this between 2007 and 2010 and they ended up removing former Governor
Segun Oni from office, but this new plot will fail, because Ekiti people are
solidly behind Fayose”, he said.
Oguntuase
cautioned Fayemi against venting anger on his successor over his abysmal
failure in the last Ekiti poll, saying “this is a man who maltreated the civil
servants, punished the teachers through the introduction of the Teachers’
competency test and had no respect for elder statesmen.
“Thank God
for that election, many Ekiti civil servants and teachers would have been
sacked if Fayemi had won reelection.
“I will
appeal to the former governor to face his work as a Minister and stop looking
for way to return to Ekiti through devilish means , because this will end up
becoming his greatest undoing”, he cautioned.
Oguntuase
said all the Ekiti residents from the 16 local government areas of the state
have passed confidence vote in the governor, saying this will further bolster
the PDP in raising the bar of governance in the delivery of democratic
dividends to the people.
