She has
battled the bulge for many years. But, clearly, Denise Welch is winning the
battle with her waistline - as she proved by posting a flattering bikini shot
to social media on Saturday morning.
The veteran
actress and TV presenter, 58, flaunted her newly-toned figure in a look which
was reminiscent of Helen Mirren's famous two-piece moment.
Posing up a
storm while on a holiday apartment balcony, the blonde performer captioned it:
'5 yrs sober!! It's never too late to turn your life around!!'.
She then
shared a second, close-up version of the same image. Boasting an impressive
golden glow, she added: "People admiring my tan & we've only just
arrived!! Thanks @cheshbeautyae for me tan!".
Naturally,
people were quick to comment Denise for her efforts, lauding her "inspirational"
and "looking fab".
But it
hasn't always been easy for her.
Earlier this
month, the actress, who is married to artist Lincoln Townley, revealed that her
depression recently reared its head with a mental collapse happening just two
months before she wrote a book, and lasted for three days.
It's
something she thinks of as 'the terrible blackness'.
She said:
"I no longer compound my illness with alcohol - I won that battle five
years ago - but I still have episodes."
The
depression began for Denise after the birth of her eldest son Matt Healy, 27,
who recently made her 'shake and cry with pride' when his band The 1975 were
named Best British Band at the Brit Awards.
Denise, who
used to be married to fellow Geordie actor Tim Healy, added: "I never
resented Matthew, but all I wanted to do was sit in my dressing gown and have
somebody give me an injection to make everything go away."
The star
stays strong with the help of husband Lincoln, whose career as an artist is flourishing.
