The ongoing
leniency shown towards managers and players at the highest level who continue
to insult, harangue and denigrate officials allows the culture of abuse to
grow
Let's
imagine Arsene Wenger had taken on the chin the perfectly correct decision of
Jon Moss.
That the
Frenchman had not hurled abuse at the referee, not been sent off, not
contemptuously shoved fourth official Anthony Taylor.
Let’s
imagine he had just shut up and gone home, like he claimed he wished he had.
And then
tweeted, or posted on Instagram, a short message suggesting his team had won
even though it was ‘10 against 12’. Then, pretty quickly, deleted it.
There is a
good chance his financial punishment would have been heavier than the one he
incurred for his disgraceful antics at the Emirates last Sunday.
