The
excessive desire for money and material possession is driving a lot of young
people into unbelievable activities that have left many people dumbfounded, and
so many others are asking, ‘What is this world turning into?’
How could a
young man under 20 have the boldness to run a criminal gang that would go after
grown men, kidnap and hold them captive so that they can demand for a huge
ransom? Do these young fellows really have any purposeful plans for the future?
These and
more of such questions popped after a 20-year-old leader of a deadly kidnap
gang that operated along Abuja-Kaduna highway in Nigeria confessed to killing
over 10 victims and drinking their blood when their families failed to pay a
ransom.
The suspect,
Ibrahim Umar also known as Sani da Oro and his gang of equally young people
were said to have been terrorizing motorists along the highway for a long time
before they recently ran out of luck.
Umar, from
the Fulani tribe in Nigeria, was arrested by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad
(SARS). The gang’s mode of operation was to dress up in camouflage military
uniform and apprehend unsuspecting motorists who ply the highway.
They would point
firearms at them and have them taken to an unknown location from where they
would contact the victim’s family for a huge ransom to be paid before they are
released.
In this
case, the arrested gang leader has revealed that when the affected families refused
to pay the ransom, he would kill the captives and drink their blood.
